Spiritual leadership will always be different than secular leadership.

Who’d think sending a shepherd boy with a sling to take on the heavyweight champion of the world was a good idea?

Is it about building your kingdom or His kingdom?

1 Samuel 18:5-9

What more can he get but the kingdom?

I have the title, but whose kingdom is it?

Joseph lost the coat, but he found the character. When you lose the title and the coat, you find the character you truly need.

I love that the Bible doesn’t gloss over the problems. Over and over again it tells leaders the heart that they are going to struggle with.

We have to keep in mind whose kingdom is this. There is a tendency, even in the disciples that walked with Jesus, to ask who is the greatest.

Never get caught up in the good things of leadership if it costs you the God things of leadership.

Mark 10:41-45

Leadership is not about greatness; it is about serving others.

Leaders, they don’t have to leave the church, but you kick them out.

You should serve your staff; you make them better.

“I’m the Son of God and I didn’t come to be served.”

Insecure leaders have to have a title and a position. A secure leader will pick up the towel and wash their feet.

We are going to have call sin, sin. It’s going to hit at our pride and ego. We have to be like Pharaoh and see others who have the goods and let them go.

We have four senior pastors and everybody says that great…unless you are one of them. I’m 25% of a senior pastor.

The Bible says a lot about pride and ego. And none of it is good.

We don’t care who teaches the message as long as the message is being taught.

I want you to outserve your team. Make them better.

Philippians 2

The “not so with you” applies to you

This is not for every leader…just for those who want to be great.

Why do this? Because Jesus said so. Because we get a healthier team and organization.

We have personality-driven organizations and that leads to succession issues.

Our calling has to trump our culture. We have to find ways to do this.

Why are young leaders leaving? Because we are there.
