Global Leadership Summit Leadership

Tom Brady celebrates another Super BowlThis past Sunday, my family like many other families across the United States, gathered in our friends’ home to watch commercial, eat unhealthy snacks and root against the Patriots. As residents of Indiana where we watched Tom Brady and Bill Belichick’s incessant winning prevent our Indianapolis Colts from making it to more Super Bowls, it is part of our duty. We pay taxes. We eat corn and pork tenderloins. We root against the Patriots. Yet something happened as I watched the Patriots win their sixth championship; I was filled with respect.

The NFL is a vastly different league than when the Patriots won their first Super Bowl in 2002. The St Louis Rams were deploying “The Greatest Show on Turf.” Marshall Faulk, Jerome Bettis and Priest Holmes were grinding out yards carrying the ball. When a baby-faced Brady led the Patriots to a massive upset, no one expected it. Over the course of the past 20 years, the league has changed and the Patriots have been zigging while the rest of the league zagged.
